Florida Dental Plans for Seniors

Medicare and Dental Coverage

Medicare is a great health insurance plan. Unfortunately, health insurance and dental insurance are two different products. Medicare does not cover dental expenses. If you had a good dental insurance prior to receiving Medicare, you were lucky. But, the party is over. You are on your own for dental care.

Considering that our government is broke, it is highly unlikely you will ever see a Medicare dental plan. But, you still have a number of different private dental insurance alternatives.

If you need dental coverage, take a minute or two and look through this site. It will allow you to look at different plans, download a brochure and even apply directly.

You can call us at 800-272-0512 or 954-757-0033

Not all dentists accept all plans. You can check with your dentist or use our online dentist finder.

As a matter of fact, you might have a dentist that will not accept any insurance at all. I don't know about you, but we are talking about a dentist and not a brain surgeon about to perform life and death surgery. If my dentist told me he would not accept any insurance at all, I would find a new dentist. Unless, the dentist would agree to discount their rates.

The bottom line is that you can attempt to find a plan that your dentist will accept, find a dentist that will accept your insurance or, pay your dentist out of your own pocket. There are no other choices.

You should also know that most dental insurance plans will not cover "major" work for the first 12 months.

Three Types of Dental Plans for Seniors

Discount Fee for Service Plans .

This type of plan is essentially a discount card. You go to a dentist in the network and they will charge you a discounted rate for their services. Some of the plans of this type will also provide a free cleaning.

The trick with these plans is finding a dentist in the network that you like. As it happens, we personally use a plan of this type. It is cheap, my dentist accepts the plan and we save a lot of money on services. I have been using it for a number of years and have been very satisfied with it.

If you would like to look at a discount dental plan, you can use this handy link. You just put in your zip code and it will show you plan in your area. Or, call your dentist and find out what he or she accepts.

Indemnity/PPO Dental Insurance Plans

An indemnity plan is a dental plan that will pay either you or your dentist a fixed dollar amount for different services.

You can go to any dentist you want. However, if you use their network, you will also be entitled to a discounted rate for all services.

Let me give you an example of how this works.

If you had a cleaning, the schedule of benefits might show that you are entitled to $35. Your out of network dentist might charge $65 for a cleaning. You would pay your dentist, submit the claim and receive a check for $35.

If your dentist was in the network, the cleaning might only cost $50. In this case, you could pay your dentist the $50 and receive $35 back, or, your dentist could submit the claim, take $15 from you and get the rest paid by the insurance company.

PPO Dental Insurance

The PPO dental insurance plan is the gold standard of dental insurance. It has the largest networks and is closest to any group dental insurance you might have had in the past. There is also a vision option with this plan.

The network is Delta Dental and you should have no problem finding a lot of dentists no matter where in Florida you live.

We have a simple brochure - price sheet - application form that you can see online, save or print out. You can use this form to apply or simply give me a call and I can enroll you online. It will take about 5 minutes.
